This inaugural ladder league will be a pilot league to help work out the details and processes for doing future pickleball ladder leagues at the Beast and in Cheyenne. This league is modeled after a league put on by the Fort Collins Pickleball Association.
The target players for this first ladder league will be players who have played pickleball enough to know the rules and have an above beginner skill level. It will be a mixed league (both men and women). It is expected that additional ladder leagues will be offered at BEAST and may be available to all skill levels and/or be broken down into different categories (e.g., by gender, refined skill level or age).
The goal of ladder leagues is to allow players to play against players with similar levels in a competitive environment. In addition, the ladder league results will be entered into the DUPR (Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating ) system. Players will be required to create a DUPR profile to participate in the league (no charge to create a profile). https://mydupr.com/

Maximum of 8 courts, 32 players, with opportunity for additional substitute players
Players will initially be ranked by the league committee with input from the players as well as from their DUPR ranking if they have one.
Each week, 4 players will be assigned a court associated with their ranking (e.g., players ranked 1-4 will be assigned court 1, players ranked 5-8 will be assigned court 2, etc.)
Each week, 6 games will be played to a score of 11 (win by 1) on each court, with each player matched with each other player twice. For each court, the top player (P1) will initially play with the 2nd highest ranked player (P2) and against P3 and P4. Then P1 will play with P3 and against P2 and P4. The 3rdgame will be P1 and P4 against P2 and P3. Then the same pairings in the same order will be repeated. In case of a tie in total points, the first tie breaker is number of wins and the 2ndtie breaker is seeding going into the match day.
Scores of each match will be recorded on the league scoresheet and turned into the league coordinator after the completion of the 6 games on each game day. If a substitute player is used during the week, please make sure the substitute players name is used.
For the first two weeks, the top two players in scoring will move up a spot on the ladder (court) and the bottom two will move down a spot. From the 3rd week on, only the top player will move up and only bottom player will move down a spot.
In addition to the internal league rankings, the league coordinator will report scores to the DUPR ranking system.
If a player is going to miss a particular date, they need to inform the league coordinator at least 24 hours before the match day they will miss. The league coordinator will find a substitute either from those players who signed up as a substitute or look for other possible substitutes. We also encourage the player who has to miss a week provide recommendations for substitutes. The goal will be to find someone at a similar level of play to the person who is missing that week.
A player that is missing for a week will not be allowed to move up the ladder but can move down (i.e., their substitute was relegated down a rung of the ladder). The substitute will pay the regular drop-in fee to participate but will not be required to pay the membership fee.
A 2nd ladder league on Thursdays will be considered if there is enough interest (i.e., signups exceed 48 players, in which case the league will be split into two).
Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong using a paddle and plastic ball with holes. It is a game that is appropriate for players of all ages and skill levels.
Because a pickleball court is smaller than a tennis court (you can actually convert one tennis court into four pickleball courts), gameplay allows players to be close enough to one another that they can hold conversations
Paired with a healthy diet, regular pickleball playing can even lead to weight loss. In fact, if you play pickleball for an hour, you can burn up to 600 calories! But, beyond a great calorie burn, you'll be having fun and not even realizing you're working out—that's a win-win in our book!
Pickleball is a wonderful alternative for older players who used to play tennis, but have physical limitations such as hip, shoulder, knee, or other joint problems.
